Everything Old Is New Again...

...even the personal transportation systems in the Starship Titanic. Designer Leovinus, in his ceaseless quest for perfection, cast his eye over existing methods of shipboard passenger transportation. Gravity inverters. Short-range recombinant matter-shift systems. Variable-league boots. Polychutes. Leovinus examined them all. And found them wanting.

 

 

Then, searching through some musty old Ultracard stacks on an ancient database server, he found inspiration in the Sneath-Robertson technology of bygone days. The elevator! Yes! A simple cage-and-cable affair, complete with grumpy one-armed operative! And the master-twist: pelerators: elevators in every detail, except they go sideways. Elegant, oblique, ironic and individualistic. Perfect for the Titanic; perfect for you.
